FFR’s forage breeding is world class with a cool season grass and medium
red clover breeding effort that has been producing high quality and top
performance varieties since the mid-1960's.
Each generation of improvement sets the baseline for the next
cycle of improvements.
Individual plants with the best genetics are started each year in
greenhouse environments then transplanted to fields where multi-year
evaluations for vigor, heat and cold tolerance, disease resistance,
regrowth capability and persistence are noted.
Only the best individual plants are selected to become seed
parents for new varieties.

Genetics, traits, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, micronutrients
and other performance enhancing treatments and products are studied for
their value to crop production systems.
GPS
technologies are incorporated to precisely locate each plot in each
location while planters with variable population and fertility options
are used.
Equipment for harvesting grain yield
and biomass are utilized by FFR’s agronomists to evaluate performance in
high quality field production systems.
Data is quickly transferred from field
computers to main servers where data for owners and seed industry
partners is analyzed.
Both field and lab NIRS technologies
are used for analysis of samples.
